Buffalo City Metro outlines its festive season safety plans

Buffalo City has declared itself ready for the festive season.

The City has already launched both its roads safety campaign and beach safety campaign.

With the high influx of visitors to our coastal areas and crowded public spaces during this period, the Buffalo City Metro’s beaches will welcome over two million visitors, and the City’s safety and security plans kicked in.

On an annual basis preparations are put in place prior to the Festive Season to prepare and manage the influx of public to the various Beaches, Amenities and events.

The City will be part of the SAPS Joint Operations Centre (JOC) from the 23rd of December until the 2nd of January 2020 which includes Disaster Management, Law Enforcement, Traffic, Fire, Police Life-saving, Ambulance services and NSRI.

Safety and security officers have been deployed on foot, horses, cars with helicopter patrols as well as CCTV cameras looking over strategic points.

The City has already hosted incident free festivals like Buyelekhaya, Motsepe, Heatwave and will be implementing the same strategies on the remaining events.

The City has increased its lifeguards compliment by 40 to beef up its contingent of 19 following drowning incidents in the last few months.

Areas covered are public beaches and associated tidal pools, public swimming beaches, picnic areas and related public open spaces including the orient Beach and Waterworld Pay Complexes.
