NOTICE: SENIOR CITIZEN PROPERTY RATES REBATE
We are notiing that a lot of people are enquiring about re-applications for Property Rates Rebate .
BCM would like to inform residents that senior citizens who have applied for the Property Rates Rebate need not to re-apply until June 2027.
All applications done as from 01 July 2023 are valid up until 30 June 2027.
Retired citizens who have already submitted their applications must note the following clarifications:
- The applicant does not have to reapply for Rates Rebate until 30 June 2027
- The applicant does not need to submit another application when the age category changes
- The applicant needs to resubmit their recently certified ID copies annually by 30 September .
Kindly note that new application forms, proof of retirement (for age 60-64) and ID copies may be emailed to ratesrelief@buffalocity.gov.za or returned by hand to any BCMM satellite offices.
To qualify for a rebate, a senior citizen must meet the following requirements:
- The applicant must be the registered owner of the property
- The applicant must occupy the property as his/her primary residence or where the owner is unable to occupy the property due to no fault of his/her own, the spouse and/or minor children must occupy the property.
- The applicant must be retired and at least 60 years of age.
- If the retired person turns 60 after the 1st of July in any financial year, on submission of an application, the rebate will be granted with effect from the next billing cycle following the date on which the application is received.
- Submit an application for the 2023/24 financial year and thereafter when the age category changes.
