BCM SETS UP FIRST COVID-19 WARD BASED STRUCTURE
The Buffalo City Metro is setting ward based structures in 10 wards that have the highest number of Covid-19 cases.

The wards have been identified by the Department of Health in order to strengthen interventions at community level.
Consultations are underway with ward councillors and ward committees.
Today, the Municipality together with Cogta and the Department of Health launched the first structure in ward 22, Mdantsane.
The identified wards are Ward 4, 9, 16, 19, 22, 23, 28, 37, 42, 46.
Various meetings have been held in ward 46 and ward 22. More meetings are scheduled to be held this week.
The Municipality is also undertaking awareness campaigns and updating COVID-19 related statistics weekly on community radio stations and social media.
East London remains the epi-centre of the epidemic in BCMM. As at 19 July 2020, the distribution of active cases was as follows: East London had 2293 active cases with 71 fatalities; Mdantsane had 991 active cases with 32 fatalities; and KWT/Bhisho had 878 active cases with 56 fatalities.
