LOCAL CHINESE COMMUNITY PLEDGE THEIR SUPPORT
Over 4 000 masks and 135 food parcels were handed over to the Metro on Monday, 18 May at the East London City Hall by the Chinese Community residing in Buffalo City Metro.

The donation was received by the Executive Mayor Xola Pakati together with senior City officials. Speaking at the event, Pakati said that the donation is welcomed as the City, as this will help with the various children’s home that we support as the City. “We are indeed grateful for this gesture, as we know that during this time of the Lockdown it is difficult for NGOs to procure other services, this will mean a lot to them, and we are grateful to be part of this process.”

The donation comes at a critical time in the City where there is a visible increase of Covid-19 infections, and this will help the helpers at the homes to stay at home and not move around.

The beneficiaries of the donation are three orphanages in the city: God’s Heart Desires Children Home in Fort Jackson, Masizakhe Children Home in Mdantsane and King William’s Town Orphanage.

Giving words of gratitude and appreciation, God’s Heart Desires Children’s Home Buyiswa Jonas said, “This has helped a lot as our food supply was not sufficient for this month and this was welcomed by the kids. The will help with the staff to protect them from COvid-19.”

The City has various partnerships with the Chinese community – locally and internationally with international cities including City of Chongqing and Jinhua City.
