NEW UNVEILED PROJECT RESTORES HOPE
Buffalo City Metro Executive Mayor Cllr. Princess Faku together with Portfolio Head for Human Settlements Cllr. Malibongwe Mfazwe officially conducted a sod turning ceremony for Westbank Land Restitution (Nongqongqo) Development Project, on Friday 12 April 2024 near King Phalo Airport

Westbank Land Restitution (Nongqongqo) Development Project is a project that has been initiated because of a settlement of urban Land Claim of the incumbents who were evicted from the West Bank Settlement.

The West Restitution project is situated approximately 0,5kilometres to the south of the East London airport and is intended to provide at least a total number of 2 026 residential erven including, sports field and churches.

Giving her keynote address, Executive Mayor Princess Faku said, "We can finally say yes, it is happening.

The dream of owning a house is finally realised. The houses are to benefit those who were evicted from their homes and displaced to make way for industrial development in the West Bank area."

"The Westbank Land Restitution project known as Nongqongqo is a clear demonstration of government’s commitment to create a better life for all our people and a means to honour the promise made in the Freedom Charter, that “All shall have housing, security, and comfort," said Faku.

In closing she said " We want to implore those responsible with implementation to ensure that the project will be completed with the set time, scope and budget. We will monitor the project so that it doesn't have unnecessary delays".

Currently, the project is part of the Human Development Agency (H.D.A) implementation program. Contractor has been appointed in June 2023 for the construction of internal services. Construction to commence mid- April 2024.
