SETTLERSWAY ROAD PROJECT 87 PERCENT COMPLETE

The Settler'sway R72 is subject to excessive traffic and congestion during peak hours and this has resulted in many of traffic delays and longer travel times along this route.

Engaging with contractors on site Mayor Faku said, “I want to thank you, I know I have been putting a lot of pressure and I wanted this road to be completed within my first 100 days of office but unfortunately due to weather conditions we were delayed.”

“Everyone including myself is excited for the completion of the road, and so far I am happy with the progress I have seen here today,” she added.

The Portfolio Head for Infrastructure Services Councillor Yomelela Tyali also added that the project has brought employment opportunities for the locals of Ward 46 area including SMME’s.

The multi-million rand project is a 7.6 kilometre stretch that seeks to upgrade the East London's economic hubs' existing road, which is the Settler's Way from the airport intersection to Fleet street intersection.

The contract value is R430 million and is 87 percent complete, and handover is anticipated to be done in September 2023.
