The project is completed and was officially launched by Executive Mayor Princess Faku in time for the summer holiday season; the busiest time of the year.
Representative of Taxi Association Gabs Mtshala said: "As Taxi drivers and owners we have a responsibility to keep the rank clean and we will fine all offenders, as we won't tolerate vandalism and unclean space."
Chairperson of Hawkers Associations Nobuntu Mafanya spoke on behalf of all hawkers in the area and thanked the City for the initiative and beautiful structure that has been built.
Executive Mayor Princess Faku encouraged taxi owners to keep the structure beautiful and clean. "We want to ask everyone to be involved in keeping the city clean and we thank you for a smooth relationship during the construction of this taxi rank."
The taxi rank comprises of ablution blocks, 5 kitchen stalls, taxi parking area, 2 storage units, and 22 hawker stalls.
The Taxi Rank was officially opened on Monday, 25 November 2024.
