Tourism month is commemorated each September and highlights the vital contribution of tourism to South Africa’s economy, job creation, inclusive growth and national development. This year’s theme is “Tourism Matters: A Strategic Force for Growth”, the focus is on tourism’s power to stimulate recovery and sustainable transformation
The launch was set to introduce a jam-packed lineup of tourism activities that will be happening in and around the Metro this September.
Welcoming all the guests present, MMC for Economic Development and Agencies Sixolisiwe Ntsasela said it was no coincidence that they were gathered in a township setting.
"Township tourism is a living, breathing example of sustainability and transformation. It tells authentic stories, creates real jobs, supports local businesses, and redefines the tourism experience from the inside out," she added.
In closing she said "let this month be a catalyst for new collaborations, new experiences, and most importantly—new opportunities for our people."
Included in the Metro's tourism month activities is a hike through Tyusha Hiking Trail happening on 13 September 2025.
The public is urged to visit the Buffalo City Tourism Facebook for more activities and tourism month specials to some of the Metro's gems.
