NEW SOLAR POWERED HIGH MAST LIGHTS FOR DUNCAN VILLAGE
Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality has been piloting new solar high mast lights across the Metro.

The pilot was implemented to ascertain the benefit of a lighting system that is not grid connected and to test the light to ensure it provides adequate light.

In Duncan Village 12 of these lights have been installed to provide lighting for informal areas as well as area where there is continuous theft of existing street lighting.

The other benefit of this type of lighting is that even during load shedding the area will still have lighting in the area.

The disadvantage is it is possible that if there is an extended period of low or no sunshine the light will not work efficiently, but this would be a very rare occurrence.
