BUFFALO CITY METRO KICKSTARTS ITS NSFAS BLITZ ROADSHOWS
The office of the Executive Mayor together with the Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality's youth desk, annually hosts the NSFAS Blitz Roadshows to assist matriculants to be able to access funding and submit applications before the closing deadline.

The Metro held this year's first roadshow at the East London City Hall on Monday 22 January 2024 at 09h00.

Welcoming the young people who came out in numbers to seek assistance, acting Executuve Mayor Cllr. Yomelela Tyali said they always look forward to helping young people in the city because it is their duty.  "We want you to access funding for tertiary education, not only so that you may get employment but for you to gain knowledge that will help you tackle societal issues", said Tyali. 

He concluded by saying, "you might get frustrated when you stay a long time without getting employed, therefore I encourage you all to look into utilizing services provided by agencies such as the NYDA." 

The Premier of the Eastern Cape Oscar Mabuyana also joined the programme to not only assist prospective students to apply for funding, but to also encourage the Metro to continue with this great initiative. He said , "I urge learners not to wait until the last minute to seek financial assistance for their studies." 

This event saw stakeholders such as National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS), National Youth Development Agency (NYDA), Silulo Ulutho Technologies and Walter Sisulu University send representatives to assist with the technical aspects of the application processes. 

The Metro assisted by setting up office infrastructure including laptops, Wi-Fi, backup generators, printers, application forms etc. 

The deadline for the NSFAS applications submission is 31 January 2024. 

The blitz roadshows will continue in the following areas :
- Mdantsane N.U 10 23 -  January 2024
- eQonce War Memorial - 24 January 2024
- Duncan Village - 25 January 2024.
