OPERATION VALAZONKE IN FULL SWING
Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality MMC for Infrastructure Cllr Yomelela Tyali is busy with different teams deployed along the coastal area to improve the turnaround times to patch potholes in BCMM.

This is part of the Executive Mayor Cllr Princess Faku commitment to improve the state of our roads after the heavy downpours in the last couple of weeks.

Torrential rains constantly damage our roads both internal and provincial roads.

The executive mayor and the infrastructure teams have made sure that once the rain has subsided, teams will be all out patching in Coastal, Midlands and Inland roads.

Overtime has also been approved for employees so to speed up the work.

Today, one of the teams is working in Woolwash road, Oxford and Gately street.

Some teams are in the Gonubie area.

Through out this month, there will be teams responsible for routine and safety maintenance, including pothole patching, blacktop patching, drain cleaning and verge maintenance, among other duties.

500 Expanded Public Works Programme workers will be deployed in all 50 wards to assist.

Cllr Tyali said: “We will have 10 EPWP workers per ward as we are speeding up this work. The executive mayor is encouraging workers to come and work on these roads and as a result, on top of the daily overtime, this has been extended to weekends as well, workers are allowed to work overtime on weekends so to speed up the work. We are in full swing.”

Cllr Tyali said the work forms part of government’s Operation Valazonke campaign, which is dedicated at pothole patching.
