City cleans up main streets as the festive season approaches
The department of Solid Waste is running a clean up campaign targeting the City’s main streets, taxi ranks and business areas.

The campaign started on Tuesday, 17 November at Oxford Street and is set to continue until December.
The campaign also includes installation of swivel bins, repairs and maintenance of manholes and storm water drains, jetting of drains and removal of debris.


Speaking about the campaign Portfolio Head for Community Services, Cllr Nontsikelelo Peter said,
“ We are working towards living in a litter free City and with the festive season coming, we are clean-ing our hotspot areas as well as offer education and awareness on Solid Waste matters.”


Cllr Peter also spoke with business operators in the area and encouraged them to keep the area clean.
Ward Councillor for Ward 47, Cllr Vusumzi Njece also added that 130 people had been employed for a period of three months through the Ward-Based Fund.
