The induction brought together officials to deepen their understanding of enterprise risk management, ethics and integrity in service delivery, fraud risk management and whistle-blowing mechanisms.
Buffalo City Metro Operations Manager Siyabonga Nkonki highlighted the importance of embracing new technology and artificial intelligence to strengthen the municipality’s efforts to prevent and reduce crime.
“We need to introduce artificial intelligence. That doesn’t mean crime will end but it will definitely decrease. With new innovations in technology, how do we fill in the gaps.
His remarks highlighted the need for the municipality to continuously adapt to technological developments while identifying gaps and strengthening systems to manage emerging risks.
Buffalo City Metro Senior Manager for Labour Relations Elliot Nombila emphasised the responsibility of employees to uphold ethical conduct and follow approved municipal policies.
“Loyally execute the lawful policies of the municipality.”
The programme also covered fraud mitigation, reporting mechanisms and the importance of creating an environment where risks and unethical conduct can be identified and addressed.
The induction reaffirmed the municipality’s commitment to building a risk-aware, ethical and fraud-resilient organisation while promoting accountability and responsible service delivery.
