Portfolio Head Of Economic Development And Agencies: Mr M Vaaibom Addressing The Beneficiaries

The effects of Covid-19 have been so devastating to the poor and the vulnerable groups, the ability to hustle for survival have been reduced to none because of the restriction of movement and closed economic activities. The Buffalo City Fresh Produce Market (BCFPM) has witnessed the direct effects of Covid -19 where communities of ward 5 and surroundings have been visiting the market to collect discarded food from the waste. This act is condemned by the department of health and degrades the dignity of human beings, as the Market we scorn upon such act of survival however we are called upon to do something to ameliorate these conditions. The market has made a clarion call to market agencies to join hands with us to donate produce that is edible and be given to communities that collects discarded food. The market management is happy to announce that on two occasions, one of the market agencies i.e. Martin and Scheepers has responded positively by donating more than 500 bags of potatoes. As the market, we are delighted to be part of these endeavours to restore the dignity of our community through food security. Our gratitude goes to our portfolio head Councillor Mzwandile Vaaiboom for the unwavering support in realising better life for all.
