Ladies race in SpecSavers

THERE will be a ladies only leg of the Spec-Savers Ironman 70.3 on Saturday, 21 January. The triathlon is taking place at the East London Esplanade.
The women's race has two categories - Individual and mother-daughter team. Athletes must be 14 years or older to race.
vAccording to the Triangle, website the mother and daughter teams have to be bona fide female family members and will be timed separately. Times will be combined for the final finisher times
"The entire race must be finished by each member of the team," reads the website.
"All athletes must sign a waiver form at registration during Race Week at the Garden Court to participate. Under 18s must have a parent or legal guardian present at registration to sign the waiver on their behalf."
Individual entry is R100 while team entry is R200. Entries can be submitted at Garden Court from Thursday, 19 January and Friday, 20 January, from 9am to 6pm. Registration packs include T-shirt, race number, safety pins, timing chip and timing belt.
The race will consist of two laps of 4.6 kilometres covering 9.2 kilometres in total. The race starts in Currie Street at the intersection with Orient Road, heading down Currie Street into Esplanade Road. Keep left.
The race will continue along Esplanade Road heading east along the beachfront and continue along Eastern Beach Esplanade to the island just past the Life Savers building, which will be the turnaround point. Runners must round the island in a clockwise direction and collect a coloured elastic band.
The second lap of the race heads back along Eastern Beach Esplanade on the seaward side of the road towards the start. Turn around at the aid station and head down Currie Street to start the second lap using the same route as the first lap.
The main event will take place on Sunday, 22 January at the East London beachfront with over 3 000 triathletes expected to participate.
