IT'S the summer holidays soon, bringing with them loads of in the sun - and artists and musicians to Buffalo City for the annual Christmas Carnival.
The five-day carnival begins at the King William's Town Botanical Gardens. It will be at the gardens for two days, before moving to the Mdantsane City Mall for the second leg. It will end at the East London beachfront.
Musicians such as hip-hop stars Prokid and Hip Hop Pantsula (HHP), Theo of Mafikizolo, Afro-jazz singer Siphokazi and DJ Kent will perform in King William's Town.
This first leg takes place on 15 and 16 December, with gates open from 10am until 10pm. The carnival will be in Mdantsane on Saturday, 17 December, with hip-hop muso AKA performing.
And then it's on to the East London beachfront on 23 and 24 December. Gang of Instrumentals, kwaito singers Kabelo and L'Vovo, and Liquid Deep will be the featured artists for the third and final leg of the Christmas Carnival.
While the national musicians are in place, Phindile Mbonwa, the metro's local economic development programme manager, explains: "The line-up for the local artists has not yet been finalised. We will keep carnival lovers updated of any developments."
The East London leg will also feature beach soccer and the carnival queen. There will be stalls at each venue for traders - making the carnival the best place to fill up on Christmas gift shopping.
Traders who would like stalls at the carnival, and people who are interested in competing in the carnival queen competition or the beach soccer tournament, need to get application forms.
These are available at the Mdantsane Tourism Centre, in the Library Complex, NU 1; at the local economic development unit offices, on the second floor of the Fire Station Building, Fleet Street, Quigney; at the Customer Care Centre on the ground floor of the Trust Centre, Oxford Street, East London; and at Knock Out Marketing, 24B Devereux Avenue, Vincent.
