FOOTBALL entertainment will keep Buffalo City buzzing this winter, with a soccer themed youth musical coming to Mdantsane in June.
The musical, brought to the coast by a non-profit organisation based in Pretoria, Seboka Training and Support Network, together with National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund, will be performed from 2 to 6 June at the Mdantsane Sun.
With a large cast, African Dream uses evocative poetry, narration, music and dance. The show will take the audience on an entertaining journey from the crushing blow of losing the 2006 World Cup bid to the elation of winning the bid to host the 2010 event on behalf of Africa.
Aimed at a young audience, entrance is free. Dance, drama and theatre management workshops will also be held on 5 and 6 June.
Written and directed by Johnny Loate and musical director Prince Lengoasa, African Dream follows South Africa's journey to hosting the 2010 FIFA World Cup™.
Performances start at 6pm and workshops at 9am. The Seboka Training and Support Network has various branches across the country and is committed to improving access for the poor and indigent to health care services.
It also facilitates partnerships between communities and government sectors in fighting HIV/Aids and related diseases, as well as targeted education and empowerment projects.
The show will tour other parts of Eastern Cape Province, including Port Elizabeth and Grahamstown.
"We have been overwhelmed by the positive response we've had to African Dream so far," says Lisky Nombe, the chief executive of the NPO.
"Young people are really responding to its positive, uplifting message and are connecting with the vibrant music, action and drama of the piece."
