COUNCILLORS, managers and directors in Buffalo City will meet on Thursday to discuss and evaluate the progress achieved in preparation for the Integrated Development Plan (IDP) and Budget Review for 2010/2011.
The IDP and Budget Review workshop will be held at Osner Hotel on 25 February from 8.30am.
It will look at various issues, including progress towards metro status readiness, the draft objectives and strategies for the 2010/2011 financial year, the half-year performance report and the preliminary project list, which forms basis for the 2010/11 budget and Medium Term Expenditure Revenue Framework to 2012/13.
“Input on the draft IDP and budget, which will be presented at the workshop, will be taken on board,” said Simpiwe Seti, the manager of the IDP and budget integration department.
During the 2009/2010 IDP and budget session, the City looked at various ways of improving the lives of its residents. Items considered included alleviating poverty, roads rehabilitation, electricity, water, improving the revenue base and improving communication internally and externally.
The City also looked at community participation, its financial viability, creating jobs, health, housing, environment and a safe and integrated city.
In the forward to the 2009/10 IDP and Budget Review, Executive Mayor Zukisa Faku highlighted a few aspects that were discussed at last year’s meetings, such as the General Valuation process, the pending increase in the cost of electricity both business and domestic, and other tariff increases.
Following the councillors’ and directors’ workshop, there will be a workshop for external stakeholders on Thursday, 4 March at the East London City Hall.
“The outcomes of both these engagements will then inform the draft IDP and budget which will be submitted to the council at the end of March,” said Seti.
