BUFFALO City may not be the hosting any Confederations Cup matches, but the action is still taking place at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium, in Mdantsane.
The City has set up a big screen for supporters to watch all the games until the tournament ends on 28 June. According to a press release issued by the City, the big screen is part of the municipality’s game plan and preparations “as we head towards the biggest sporting event this country will stage, the 2010 World Cup”.
Giving an overview of the Bafana Bafana games that have already been played, the City’s spokesperson, Samkelo Ngwenya, said, “During the Bafana Bafana games a festival atmosphere is created with entertainment and extravaganza for locals to rally behind the team.
“With this kind of support, we are confident that the South African national team will … make us proud.”
Ngwenya added that Buffalo City was positioning itself as a sport destination of choice, with ambitions of being a team base camp and training venue for one of the teams that would be participating in the World Cup next year.
“As our vision outlines, we are determined to ensure that Buffalo City becomes a people-centred place of opportunity where basic needs are met in a safe, healthy and sustainable environment,” he said.
The City is also calling all sports fans to make use of the developments and ensure that the Confederations Cup is memorable.
Speaking about safety and security, Ngwenya said, “Strict security measures [are] put in place and no alcohol [is] allowed at the venue.”
