SOME beautiful classical music is on the cards for the Guild Theatre this August.
Kicking off the season is Piano Recital by Widor du Toit on Sunday, 3 August. Tickets are R25 for adults and R10 for learners. It will be followed by another Piano Recital, this time featuring the Grahamstown pianist, Catherine Foxcroft, on Wednesday, 6 August.
And then dancing takes a turn with Pollyanna at the Ballet. Presented by the Geraldine Cross School of Ballet, performances are on Thursday, 14 August and Saturday, 16 August.
Speaking about the ballet, theatre manager Zane Flanagan says it is a nice story about a girl who brings new life to an unhappy town.
“Orphaned Pollyanna finds herself placed in the care of her prim aunt, and she brings new life to an unhappy town. In the cast are over 200 pupils aged four years to post-school and the well-known local stage personalities Shawn Whitfield, Joan Pike and Richard Rees.”
This is followed by a Centrestage tribute to one of pop music's most enduring and successful singer-songwriters, Neil Diamond.
Cape Town’s most famous barbers, Boeta Joe and Boet Gamat, will help East London theatre goers start spring with a laugh when their show Joe Barber for the People hits the Guild stage on Monday, 25 August and Friday, 29 August.
