MDANTSANE’S children are spending their holidays at fun days hosted by the Buffalo City Urban Renewal Unit around the township this week.
To ensure the week is a success, the Mdantsane Urban Renewal Programme teamed up with the provincial department of sports, recreation, arts and culture, the Mdantsane City Mall and other local stakeholders.
Ondela Mahlangu, from the City’s communications department, said the programme was being held to keep learners safe and entertained during the school holidays.

Youngsters had their faces painted as part of the activities
“In line with the Mdantsane Urban Renewal Programme’s objectives, this event will be fulfilling an obligation and mandate to create an environment that is culturally inclusive. As one of the vulnerable groups of society, children do need to feel safe and secure in their communities,” Mahlangu said.
The programme kicked off on Monday, 30 June at the NU1 Community Hall; children aged six to 13 flocked to the facility for a fun-filled day of activities. These ranged from face painting, puzzles and a balloon artist, to indigenous games and the very popular jumping castle.
There was also a play that aimed to encourage these youngsters to think about acting as a career.
The fun days will take place in other areas in the township, finishing on Friday, 4 July at Mdantsane City, the new multimillion-rand shopping mall in NU6. To ensure childrens’ safety, the days are limited to 60 kids, who must pay an admission fee of R5 each.
If successful, the week-long fun days will be held annually.
