THE King of Rock 'n Roll will be entertaining audiences at the Guild Theatre in East London from Thursday, 28 February.
Theatre manager Zane Flanagan says that the show, titled A Centre Stage Tribute to Elvis Presley, will be presented by the All Star Band. The show will depict Elvis's life, from his early rock 'n roll years, to his days in the army and his appearances on the big screen.
"The two-hour show, presented in extravaganza style, takes in all Presley's biggest hits with each of the band members taking turns to pay their respective tribute," Flanagan explains.
Depicting the king's early 1950s hip-swaying rock 'n roll energy will be Wayne Kallis; Gino Fabbri will provide some military fun in his GI Blues rendition, tipping his hat at the king's time in the army.
A Centre Stage Tribute to Elvis Presley will run on Saturday, 1 March, Wednesday, 5 March and Saturday, 8 March, at the Guild Theatre.
Following hot on its heels, is a show on the thriving urban hip-hop culture. Titled Hip-Hop Massacre, Flanagan says that this will be the first time East London will have all the hip-hop elements in one show.
"All the four elements of hip-hop - deejays, MCs, floor dancers and graffiti artists - will come together at the Guild Theatre to compete against each other. The winners will go to Cape Town to compete in Just Up and Dance on March 29."
Completing the impressive March line-up is De-javu in Concert, starting on Saturday, 22 March.
"De-Javu, a young vibey five-man harmony group from Cape Town, with their vibrant choreography and silky smooth voices, will get the audience's feet tapping sooner rather than later with sounds from the Temptations and Earth, Wind and Fire."
They also sing a lot of local Cape songs, Flanagan says.
"South Africa's very funny man, Ashely P, will host the show with his Madiba voice and Michael Jackson impersonation."
De-javu in Concert is on Saturday, 22 March and Sunday, 23 March.
