CITIZENS will be invited to be part of Buffalo City's Integrated Development Plan (IDP) and budget process as the municipality visits neighbourhoods for its annual discussions on the documents.
The hearings will start on Thursday, 10 April and run until Friday, 24 April; they will cover all 45 city wards. This year's theme, Engaging our citizens in creating a people-centred place of opportunity for all, is taken from the municipality's vision. It states that the City aims to be a people-centered place of opportunity, where the basic needs of all are met in a safe, healthy, sustainable environment.
Talking about its commitment to present the draft IDP and budget for 2008/09 to its people, Executive Mayor Zintle Peter said the City always wanted to go the extra mile in working with its communities.
"We do this to ensure that the letter and spirit of our Constitution and local government legislation has been adhered to," she said.
"The IDP and budget hearings will, therefore, afford the citizens of Buffalo City Municipality an opportunity to participate in and contribute towards the realisation of our vision, as it will mainly be achieved through implementation of the IDP and budget."
During April, councillors and City officials will visit communities in East London, King William's Town and Bhisho to ensure that citizens take full part in formulating the municipality's priorities for the next financial year.
