ATHLETES interested in taking part in the in Ironman 70.3 have been invited to an information evening to be held in East London on Wednesday, 21 November, at the Regent hotel.
Ironman, the fastest growing sport in the world, is a swim, cycle and run event that attracts athletes and spectators from all over the world. The Ironman 70.3, to be held in East London on 13 January next year, is expected to bring to the city 20 000 spectators, a thousand athletes, 2 500 guests travelling with athletes, 600 volunteers and 50 journalists covering the event.
At the information evening, hosted by the municipality, Triangle South Africa race director Paul Wolff will share information with first-time Ironman athletes who want to know what to expect come race day.
Also on hand to inform athletes of the type of training programmes on offer and how Triangle is able to assist them, will be the institute's elite triathlete and official Ironman coach James Cunnama.
Cunnama will be available to field questions, especially from first time athletes, and help them to understand what goes into preparing for and competing in an Ironman.
Also invited are people who want to be volunteers. For up-to-date information on the Spec-Savers Ironman South Africa, log on to the Ironman website.
