Youth summit

Youth issues will be on the agenda when Buffalo City municipality hosts a two day summit at the Mdantsane Sun.

Starting on Tuesday, 20 November 2007, the summit aims to bring youth from all 45 wards in Buffalo City to discuss issues ranging from business opportunities, participation in the Mdantsane Urban Renewal Programme (MURP) and other youth related issues.

However, topping the agenda will be the disbursement of the R3 million allocated to youth issues as part of the Executive Mayor, Zintle Peter's commitment to uplifting the youth in Buffalo City.

In line with Buffalo City's Youth Development Strategy the municipality, by hosting the youth summit will be fulfilling an obligation and mandate to create opportunities that will improve and develop the youth's full potential.

Under discussion at the summit will also be the strategy's five focus areas which include:

  • Youth Economic Development
  • Increased Partnerships Amongst Youth And BCM
  • Youth And HIV and Aids
  • Life Skills Promotion
  • Moral Regeneration

Joining Mayor Peter in talking to the youth will be some of the city's critical roleplayers like Eastern Development Cooperation, National Department of Agriculture and Land Affairs; Mdantsane Urban Renewal Programme and the Eastern Cape Youth Commission.
