FOLLOWING the success of East London's first-ever sprint distance triathlon last year, the Sunshine Coast Triathlon, organisers are already excited about this year's event.
Taking place at Orient Beach on Sunday, 11 February, this year's Sunshine Coast Triathlon is presented by New Balance. Event organiser Dan Taylor said he was very excited about the second competition. "Athletes participating in the event are anxiously awaiting the Eastern Cape's premier sprint distance triathlon."
Some of the country's top road triathletes, such as Kent Horner, Claire Kinsley and Kirsty Weir, would be in action, he said. But the talent would not only be coming from outside the city. "Our local Ironman athletes will also be testing their legs so we are bound to see some top-class action."

Kent Horner will be one of the athletes to watch at the Sunshine Coast Triathlon
Individual athletes and teams of three can compete in the Sunshine Coast Triathlon, which will consist of a 750m sea swim, a 20km cycle and a 5km run. Even first-time triathletes are welcome.
The fun starts two days before the triathlon, when the organisers host the C3 Mobile Sport and Wellness Expo at East London's Regent Hotel. Registration for the competition takes place at the expo venue between 1pm and 7pm on Friday, 9 February and between 9am and 5pm on Saturday, 10 February.
The expo consists of about 50 stands, including sport retail stores, sporting brands, health providers, complementary health practitioners, therapists and related services. There is also a sports massage and therapy room, a lecture room, a children's play area and a refreshments area.
