Mayor’s toy drive 2007

As part of Buffalo City Executive Mayor, Councillor Zintle Peter’s annual Christmas outreach programme she will be paying a visit to hospitals in and around the city to spread messages of hope and goodwill to children who have been hospitalized during this festive season.
The programme which started out as a small toy drive by the municipal staff of Buffalo City in 2006 has now grown into a citywide outreach which is supported by Meeg Bank and employees of BCM, who have pledged to make a difference by supporting the Executive Mayor’s Toy Drive.
On December 10, 2007 pediatric patients in hospitals will therefore awake to find toys to provide comfort and holiday cheer and Mayor Peter, Councillors and officials on hand to share words of comfort and encouragement to those kids who may not be able to spend Christmas at home.
Speaking about the outreach, Mayor Peter said that Buffalo City took great pride in embracing the holiday spirit through the Christmas outreach activities.
"We are immensely blessed to have so much and through the outreach, we able to keep the spirit of giving alive and give hope to so many that feel hopeless.”
Turning her attention to the event to be held on December 10, Mayor Peter said that she looked forward to seeing a smile when she handed out the toys, as well as, offering comfort to those children desperately needing love and care. "It is important that I give off my time to the underprivileged children of our city, I would like to give them hope so that they know someone out there cares for them but more importantly that they have a brighter future awaiting them," said Mayor Peter.
According to Peter, the hospitals that will be visited include Grey hospital, Bhisho hospital, Cecilia Makiwane hospital, Nkqubela hospital, Frere hospital and Fort Grey hospital.
Mayor Peter expressed her thanks to Meeg Bank for their generous donation and the councillors and staff of Buffalo City Municipality for the toys that were collected in aid of the toy drive.
“Approximately three hundred children will benefit from this generosity - this makes me eternally grateful that we have people of such giving spirit who are able to heed the call of those that are sick, poor or needy,” said Peter.
