ANC wins
comfortably in Buffalo City

THE final election results from the Independent Electoral Commission have been released and the African National Congress (ANC) has won 82 percent of the 89 seats in the Buffalo City council.
The party won the majority of the votes in the local government elections on Wednesday, 1 March, giving it 41 ward seats and 32 proportional representation seats.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) received a total of 11 seats – four ward and seven proportional representation. In Buffalo City 10 political parties competed for 369&bsp;123 votes, with the ANC grabbing 300 010, or 81 percent, of those and the DA colleting 45 148.
These two parties were followed by the Pan Africanist Congress of Azania with 3 percent – and winning three seats – and the African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP) with 1 percent. The ACDP and the United Democratic Movement each won a seat in the City council.
Parties that failed to win a seat in council are the Independent Democrats, Independent, United Independent Front, the National Democratic Convention and the Inkatha Freedom Party.
