Chiselhust substation explosion

24 April 2006

MEDIA RELEASE

BCM would like to inform all customers and the public at large, that due to an explosion at the Chiselhurst substation some East London areas experienced lack of power supply. At the moment the cause of the explosion is not known and BCM electricians are working on that.

Currently, BCM electricians are at work trying to restore power to households as soon as possible. However due to the extent of damage power to some areas may not be restored immediately.

Electricity supply has been restored in some areas and the following are still outstanding namely, Amalinda, Vincent, Abbotsford, Berea, Nahoon, Dorchester Heights and Selborne.

It is with deep regret that one of BCM’s senior officials was seriously injured and is currently receiving treatment at a local hospital.

The inconvenience caused by the explosion is regrettable and BCM undertakes to ensure electricity supply to all consumers is restored.

Ends.
