EXPECT a knock on your door from your City leaders as Buffalo City Municipality visits residents in its 45 wards to educate them about local government and service delivery.

The City's two-week outreach programme forms part of local government month and will resume on Monday, 10 October.

Senior communications officer Mamnkeli Ngam said the City aimed to inform its residents of what it had achieved since assuming power.

"We also want to outline the challenges we face [in creating] a better life for all the citizens living in our city."

The programme was also an opportunity for the municipality to strengthen its communications with its customers and the public.

"In a sense, the municipality gives the public a say in the process of social transformation, thereby realising and deepening participatory democracy," Ngam explained in a press release.

The outreach programme is set to end on October 20. The City will not only be sharing information about its achievements, but also about its shortfalls and challenges.

"We will also be clarifying municipal policies on service delivery and informing and educating our communities about the roles and functions of the municipality," Ngam said.

Printed material would be distributed to help people understand the projects being undertaken in their areas, as well as the difference between municipal functions, provincial and national governments.

Municipal officials and councillors will be visiting areas like Dimbaza, East London, King William's Town and Mdantsane, among others.
