THE Buffalo City municipality has launched its sixth edition of 'Focus on Buffalo City', a magazine that reviews the city's socio-economic status.
The latest edition was launched on Wednesday, 19 May.
Publisher Norma Beyl initiated the 103-page glossy magazine - which covers a range of sectors in the city - in 1998.
Buffalo City deputy executive mayor, Des Halley, says the magazine is one of the city's most prized possessions. "When Beyl came to us with the idea, we were a bit sceptical. But, when we look at how important it is now, we don't regret the decision to publish."
Halley says Beyl produces the magazine for the municipality through sponsorships from local businesses.
Initially, the magazine was called 'East London Focus', but - with the incorporation of King William's Town and Bisho - the magazine became 'Focus on Buffalo City'.
But, because the name Buffalo City is not yet a familiar one to foreign investors, says Halley, the publication is also referred to as the "review of economic sectors in East London, King William's Town, Berlin and surrounds".
"When we go overseas, we use this book to show people and potential investors what is happening in Buffalo City."
The magazine covers, among other topics, business, health, education, parastatals and housing associations.
"This magazine has grown tremendously. This year's magazine has 16 more pages than last year. We are looking to make it an icon of the city."
