Buffalo City has spent R16,5-million on upgrading the sport facilities that will be used during the South African Games in the city in March, the Daily Dispatch reported recently.
Amenities manager Willie Maritz said they had received funding from Buffalo City's coffers, the National Lottery fund, the Consolidated Municipal Infrastructure Programme and from the Amatole District Municipality.
Maritz said that the improvements were at an advanced stage, with some facilities completed.
Facilities that have received a facelift include the Sisa Dukashe stadium in Mdantsane, the new synthetic athletics track at the Jan Smuts stadium and a new heating system for the Joan Harrison swimming pool.
Maritz told the newspaper that work done on the car park at Selborne Park and the palisade fencing around the swimming complex had already been completed.
