IN an attempt to improve the quality of traffic patrols and safety on its roads, Buffalo City has bought two state-of-the-art Mercedes Benz vehicles.
The two cars were officially handed over to Fudukile Mbovane, the councillor responsible for social services, by David Law of Ronnie's Motors at the East London City Hall on Tuesday 17 August.
Law, whose firm won a tender advertised by the municipality, said he was happy with the way the deal had been handled by both parties. "We're happy to have been part of this deal; I hope these cars play a major role in ensuring road safety in Buffalo City," he said.
Vouching that the C-Class was one of the safest cars on the road, Law said: "With cars like these here, the municipality can only do a good job; they're very safe. The municipality will be able to serve its road users with distinction."
The City's communications manager, Darby Gounden, said the cars would go a long way in assisting the city's officers with law enforcement.
"There is also the issue of emergencies; we want to do a smooth job for our citizens without endangering their lives. These kinds of cars are well-known for their high-quality safety features," said Gounden, adding that good service to the city's citizens was the core responsibility of the municipality, which had a fleet of some 70 patrol cars.
