Traffic survey aims to create better, interactive service

12 August 2004

IN an effort to interact with motorists and improve its service, the Buffalo City traffic department recently conducted a survey asking motorists to complete questionnaires on the city’s service.

“The responses will be analysed and the outcome will show the department how the public feels about us – and what we should improve,” reported Superintendent Yusaf Saib.

The department targeted strategic areas like Gonubie Main Road, Bonza Bay Road in Beacon Bay, Nahoon Beach Road and Devereaux Avenue in Vincent.

Saib said most motorists commended the department’s officers on the job they were doing: “One motorist said we were doing a good job but needed to cover the whole of Buffalo City including King William’s Town, Bisho and especially the rural areas.”

Another motorist suggested officers be friendlier in their dealings with motorists. “That was a good comment because we really don’t want to intimidate our customers; they need to know that we’re doing a job for their benefit therefore there is no need for them to feel intimidated in any way,” said Saif.

Saif said the co-operation of motorists when officers stopped them to fill in the questionnaire impressed him deeply.

“The enthusiasm showed by the motorists was very encouraging and we are certain that with this kind of co-operation the traffic department’s aim of providing an excellent service will be achieved.”

Results of the survey are expected to be available later this year.
