20 April 2004
A R2-MILLION state-of-the-art multimedia centre at the new premises of the Eastern Cape premier's office in Bisho is scheduled for completion this week, the Daily Dispatch reported today.
The centre was designed to help the government tackle the problems created by the distances information had to be communicated in the province, according to the premier's office spokesperson, Manelisi Wolela. It was intended to help to the provincial government improve service delivery and facilitate communication with the public and the media.
"The centre will also assist the provincial administration in improving the efficiency of its management by eliminating travel and subsistence cost," said Wolela.
The centre would also allow the head office to engage in meetings with district offices via audio, video and data links, cutting out the need to travel.
Wolela said multimedia staff would begin technical training this week, with the centre being launched "in due course".
