Museum to use city
crest on souvenirs
30 July 2003
The Buffalo City council has given the East London Museum permission to use the city's crest on the souvenirs it sells, the Daily Dispatch reported today.
Corporate Services director Amanda Magwentshu told the newspaper that this was not the first time the city had been approached by institutions wanting to use the crest. "Last year there were six requests. We granted permission to all of them as they market and promote the city," she said.
In a report to council, Magwentshu recommended that permission be granted to the museum, which was frequented by overseas visitors.
Magwentshu told the newspaper that institutions did not have to pay for using the crest.
