Community participation
helps build Mdantsane
20 August 2003
Mdantsane's ward has emerged as one of the best run in the province at the Ward Committee Conference held at the Fish River Sun, the Daily Dispatch reported today.
Ward councillor Mxolisi Nkula told the newspaper that active participation had resulted in more than half of the 426 houses planned for the ward being built, as well as the electrification of 1000 houses.
"Soon after the committee was elected we went on a strategic session where we established a matrix on how to measure the performance of our municipality and what to expect of it. Each member of the committee was responsible for the oversight of 10 departments of the municipality," Nkula said
Nkula told the newspaper that this had ensured that all information reached the people and relevant stakeholders.
"We have achieved a lot due to hands-on management and community input and participation," he said.
