New by-law for library users

15 August 2003

The Buffalo City social service committee recommended adoption of a proposed new by-law relating to municipal libraries the Daily Dispatch reported today.

Social services director Peter King said at the directorate's meeting that there had been no objections to the by-law. "Following the council's passing of the by-law, it will be published in the provincial Gazette. Only after that is enforceable," King said

The by-law regulates admission to library buildings, membership, return of library material, conduct in the library and fines for overdue books

Contravention of the by-law carries a fine of up to R1000 the newspaper said.
