Buffalo City and the Sida Urban Programme

Buffalo City's strong ties with the Swedish International Development Agency (Sida) have seen a wide range of projects across the city aimed at boosting the local economy and providing for social development programmes.

Initiated in 2001, the Buffalo City – Sida urban development programme was set up as a support to improve the lives of people in Buffalo City. The partnership aims:

  • to focus on poverty alleviation
  • to promote economic growth
  • economic and social equality
  • environmental protection
  • gender equality
  • democratic development

Some of the partnership projects include the setting up of community support centres; introducing a geographic information system; environmental projects; sustainable human settlements; water management; roads; customer care; and good governance.
