Department of Public Safety
This department forms part of the Directorate of Health and Public Safety. The purpose of this department is to provide traffic safety and crime prevention services, fire and rescue services, and disaster management services that ensure the safety of all communities within Buffalo City.
The department comprises three divisions:
- Traffic and law enforcement
- Fire and rescue services
- Disaster management
Traffic and law enforcement
This division comprises two sections: Law Enfocement and Traffic Services
Law Enforcement
Functions of this section include:
- enforcement of municipal by-laws;
- protection of municipal assets; and
- crime prevention.

Traffic services
Functions of this section include:
- education about traffic safety;
- the erection and maintenance of road signs and surface markings; and
- traffic law enforcement.
