Law Enforcement Services

Law Enforcement Services, a section of the Traffic and Law Enforcement Division, are responsible for the enforcement of municipal by-laws and for guarding municipal assets. They are also responsible for co-ordinating protest marches and gatherings in terms of the Gatherings Act.

Do law enforcement services attend to complaints on private property?
No. Contact your nearest police station.

Are the hawkers permitted to sell goods in the CBD?
Yes, provided they are doing so in terms of the street by-law pertaining to informal trading.

Why don't law enforcement services remove the squatters?
In terms of the applicable legislation, once a structure has been erected it may not be removed without the consent of the occupier. Alternatively, a court order has to be obtained.

Can I phone law enforcement services during an emergency?
No. Policing remains the primary function of the SAPS. You can contact the SAPS emergency number: 10111
