SOD TURNING FOR HOMELEIGH HALT RESERVOIR IN NOMPUMELELO
BCM Executive Mayor Cllr. Princess Faku together with MMC for Infrastructure Services Cllr. Yomelela Tyali officially conducted a sod turning ceremony for Homeleigh Halt Resevoir in Nompumelelo.

The Homeleigh Halt reservoir is located just off Bonza Bay Road in proximity to the Crossing Retail Centre. The reservoir falls within the Umzonyana Gravity Supply Zone (U-GSZ) of BCMM's coastal Supply area. This supply zone receives water from from Briddledrift Dam, via BCMM's 120Ml/day Umzonyana Water Treatment Plant (U-WTP) that is located in Wilsonia.

 

The resevoir currently comprises of a 1.5 Ml ground reservoir feeding the Nompumelelo low level supply zone as well as 2No. Pump stations, 1No pump station feeding the Ducats reservoir located some 4.5km to the northwest on the N6, 1No. pump station feeding the adjecent elevated reservoir, A 500 kl elevated reservoir feeding Nompumelelo high level zone,the commercial and residential area to the north of Bonza Bay road from China town to Nahoon Valley Park then extending past the Red Bishop Country Estate to the provate schools to the north.

 

Speaking about the project BCMM Acting HOD for Infrastructure Services Luyanda Mbula said, "The City set aside R6.085 million for this project."

"The reservoir will supply Ward 15 and 10 people from the ward are being employed for this project," said Mbula.

"The areas that will be benefiting from this project include Nompumelelo, Ducates, Bishops Country Estate, Nahoon Valley Park, Beacon Bay Motor City, China Mall and Beacon Bay Crossing Mall," he said.

 

The project is expected to be completed by the 24th of May 2024.
